Reasons for Quitting

Smoking is a prevalent habit in the United Kingdom, but it’s also one of the leading causes of preventable death. If you’re thinking about quitting smoking, here are some reasons why it’s worth considering.

Triggers

Stress

Stress is a major trigger for smoking, and it can lead to anxiety and depression. It’s also a symptom of other health problems, including high blood pressure and heart disease.

Alcohol

Alcohol is a depressant, and it can make you feel more relaxed. Alcohol can also make you feel more confident, social, comfortable and forget about problems. These feelings can be triggers for smoking cravings because they are associated with the pleasurable effects of nicotine in cigarettes.

Friends

While relaxing with friends, you will have some that smoke and it’s easy to get triggered by them or even encouraged to smoke.

Reward Mechanism

Sometimes we want to smoke as a way to ‘reward’ ourselves. The best way to overcome a craving is to find something enjoyable to do and do it, as a potential substitute.

Caffine

Caffeine affects how well your body absorbs nicotine from smoking cigarettes or other products containing tobacco; this makes it harder for smokers who use caffeine regularly when they want to quit smoking altogether.

Deadlines

Deadlines are stressful. Stress can trigger cravings, which in turn can lead to smoking. If you have a deadline, it’s important to fight the urge with other activities.
